comment How can tobacco be used in beer?
Can't find anything on their site about the KeTo ReAle, but the KeTo RePorter page says "Kentucky tobacco leaves are added, the same ones used for the famous Toscano cigars".

Very valuable advice, although doesn't quite answer my question. Thanks though - I hadn't taken this into consideration.

Great idea. I'll have to hit the local cigar store and see what old boxes I can find. I wonder if the LD50 for cedar is less than the cigars...

comment I want to make a Rauchbier. How do I go about smoking my grain?
Are the oak cubes purely for flavour or do they impart a smokey aroma too?

So you buy malted grain and smoke it, not smoking unmalted grain?

comment Is rapid wort chilling always needed?
Oh right, you open the bags and drop the ice cubes in. I thought you left the zip-locks sealed and dropped them in. In that case you wouldn't need to pre-boil the water.

Still good to know - I've had no troubles with my current process but keen to find out why & where I'll hit the limits.

@DustinRasener As long as the ziplock bag stays locked, you shouldn't need to boil the water inside, should you?

comment Types of bottles I can use for beer
Sanitiser on plastic bottles is fine. Plastic water bottles and plastic beer bottles are both PET. Look for the recycling triangle with 1 in it.

Yeah, in this case it got to about 30C (86F) pretty quickly, so I guess I'm doing it without realising :) From what I understand, the reasons are 1. to prevent DMS forming but not boiling off and 2. to prevent chill haze. I'm brewing a fruit beer from extract (loaded with proteins I imagine), so it seems like it might not be necessary.
