No-rinse acid sanitizer - is there a risk? +1 As a know-nothin' noob brewer, I was super hesitant about all the foam. Read John Palmer's How To Brew and watched a bunch of brewing videos on YouTube where they used StarSan, no rinse, foam everywhere... Now I'm a believer. |

Which pieces of brewing equipment seem like a good idea to buy, but are of limited usefulness? @baka No kidding? I didn't know that. The guy at my LBS sold me on the handles as he indicated they were attached to the strongest part of a carboy and allowed for one-handed operation. Guess I'll have to take 'em one-at-a-time instead. Appreciate the info. |

Which pieces of brewing equipment seem like a good idea to buy, but are of limited usefulness? I've found the handles incredibly useful. My basement stairs are very narrow and steep. I couldn't carry, simultaneously, two full carboys down to the basement without the handles. Also, handles are aces when cleaning the carboys. |

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Buckets vs Carboys? There are carboy handles that make it much easier to move a carboy. If you're imbibing so much you can't lift the carboy, you may consider placing it on a cart with wheels. |

Should you rehydrate dry yeast? @spoulson: Yeast starters can expedite the fermentation process as well as help avoid certain pitfalls. |

I have some “expired” mead yeast, is it still good? +1 For starting fresh. New yeast is an insignificant cost compared to the investment of money and time for an entire batch. |

I have some “expired” mead yeast, is it still good? It would certainly be easier/faster to just buy new yeast. |

How do I culture yeast from a commercial beer? Is it legal? If the commercial brewery pasteurizes their beer, this would be nearly impossible. |
