Raising alcohol content (slightly) using malt extract kits okay - I'm going to try a couple of batches using some extra Coopers Brew Enhancer (basically dextrose, maltodextrin and Light Dry Malt) to try and push it up. Do you think an extra 200gms would be a reasonable amount to start with? (eg going from 1kg sugars to 1.2kg sugars to go from 4% to 5% alcohol at the end) |

Raising alcohol content (slightly) using malt extract kits I guess I should have mentioned I'm not from the states. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to get home brew stuff shipped over to nz, but its something I'll definitely bear in mind if I move up to all grain brewing. thanks =) |

Preparing Yeast To be honest, most of it seems to just sink to the bottom of the bowl and sit there as a thick sludge. If I mix it up, it goes latte colored though. Does that sound normal? |

Boiling water and plastic equipment Thanks for that detailed answer. It's certainly something I'll think about doing (or not doing rather =) for my next batch. Not having to wait for all that water to cool down would save hours of time! |

Sanitizing Second Hand Equipment (plastic fermenters etc) Cool - thanks for the answer. I've ended up keeping one of the plastic barrels which was in pretty good condition. I'm cleaning it out now, and I think I'll try it on some ginger beer first . The other two barrels, I think I'll turf. |
