comment How do I extend my kegerator beer line run properly?
Thanks Jalynn, that's great info. I may try to remove the fan guard myself. Is there any further information you can share about how to do that? Feel free to contact me at jasonmo@mac.com. Thanks!

comment How to clean the inside of a blowoff hose
So far I've found that the long, hot PBW soak does 95% of the work, and I just do 1 quick in and out with the brush. Since I've invested a few hundred bucks in glass 5 gallon carboys, I'm going to keep using the blowoff system for a while. I'll monitor the situation and inspect for scratches, maybe replace them after a few more brews, but I need to find a way to clean 'em since this will be my primary brewing system for a while and I don't want to keep buying and throwing them away. Thanks for the heads up, I'll continue working on this and perhaps another solution will present itself.

comment How long to ferment for?
@Sean: yes, about 2 weeks in the fermenter and then bottle and add the drops. The next phase is usually called Bottle Conditioning, not secondary fermentation (which refers to something different). Let the beer condition in the bottles for at least a week. At that point, go ahead and taste a bottle or two. The beer will improve over the next week or so. I had an average tasting beer get significantly better after 6 weeks in the bottle.

comment Will this Pilsner technique work?
Following up: after 1 week in the basement with temps between 40-50 degrees and a blanket wrapped around the fermenter, there are no signs of fermentation activity at all. I'm going to wrap a newly arrived fermwrap around it today and hope that gets things going. Anything else I should do to try and start it up?

comment Will refrigeration help carbonate my beer?
This was a Brewers Best extract kit for Pale Ale. It sat for two weeks in the primary, I believe the FG was between 1.005 and 1.010. I bottled into a variety of Grolsch style flip-top bottles using the BB priming sugar dissolved in boiling water as per the directions in the kit. Sugar was added to bottling bucket, then I racked the beer on top of it, and did some stirring to mix it in.

comment Is this fluorescent light harming my beers during bottle conditioning and storage?
It would be extremely easy to put newspaper pages on top of my antique beer crates. But it would look lame. That's why I don't want to if I don't have to. I like looking at my beer!

Thanks MDMA, missed that answer on the first search.

Thanks Denny. I know people use blankets and ferm wraps to warm up carboys in cool rooms. Any suggestions for warming up a few crates of bottles? Ambient temp in this room is 60-65.

Will try a longer soak, thanks. Since you are not always using a blow off hose, just curious, are you fermenting in larger carboys or plastic pails?
