Why are there flakes in my beer after 5 days? It's difficult to say from your picture. It could be 'yeast floaties' too. Regardless, I doubt it's anything to worry about (unless they start to look fuzzy and get bigger like mold). |

What should I do with this 1-lb brick of maple sugar? Maple sugar != maple syrup. According to Wikipedia, maple sugar is about 90% sucrose (table sugar), the remainder mostly glucose and fructose. Not a fair downvote. |

Is there a technique which prevents the deposit of sediment at the bottom of bottles? Not necessarily dead, just flocculated. |

Is a normal plastic fermenting bucket with a plain lid (no kind of tap) OK to ferment in without the beer becoming contaminated? Drill a 1/2 inch hole. At my LHBS a plastic airlock goes for $1.99. |

My cider stopped fermenting until I swished it around in the bucket a bunch, then continued. Is that normal? The difference between 1.003 and 1.002 is so small (especially if measured with a hydrometer) that I would consider it measurement error most likely. |

Very long primary in plastic That's what I like. I don't see a point in doing brews that I don't drink and wouldn't even bother buying. |

Very long primary in plastic After considering the answers here, my current plan is to get another bucket fermenter and rack the beers to the plastic carboys. The mead I'll do directly in the carboy and let it sit for a few months. Thanks for the insight! |
