I am a professional geek, working in enterprise data systems. I fill the role of systems engineer, architect, developer, project manager, etc... a one-stop enterprise IT kinda guy.
I develop in .NET, MVC, and IIS on Windows platforms; on *nix I favor to develop in PHP with some Cake.
For database systems I favor MSSQL, MySQL, and I'm moving into PostgreSQL for BI/ Warehousing.
Security is near and dear to my heart; a well-designed security system puts a satisfied smile on my face.
Scalability is important to me; planning for the future is one of my greatest strengths.
Thats me! Computer geek extraordinaire!

Can a water heater element be installed in a conduit punched hole? You'll need a 1 3/8" step bit to get the right size for a water heater element, and make sure you oil your bit! Those guys are NOT easy to sharpen and drilling thru stainless steel will take its toll on a $50 bit. |

Electric RIMS wattage, voltage calculations Thanks guys for explaining it to me. Makes sense now. I'll mark this as the answer, because you answered my question about mash temp better I think, but both are great answers! |

Electric RIMS wattage, voltage calculations Excellent, thanks. BTW, this is not my boil kettle, just my recirculating mash tun. I have another kettle with the 5500W ULWD element(240V/ 30A) that works great, I just need the other one to maintain 150-155F and recirculate until the conversion is done... trying to get away from the cooler. |

Nothing visible happening in fermenter after three and a half days - what should I do? This is why I like fermenting in carboys... besides the fact that it's cool to watch. |

Reusing bottlecaps I do it all the time, it works great and really cuts down on bottling time. |

How to sanitize a 10" cylindrical beer filter? I was concerned about pushing sanitizer through the filter and introducing odd flavors, but that seems to be the accepted thing to do. |

Quick disconnects - cheap alternatives? I ordered some. Still more expensive than I think they should be but 1) they seem to be quality stuff, 2) they'll do the job, and 3) they look cool. |
