Tap Water: Safe to use without boiling? Tap water from public sources should be sanitized. However, the much-mentioned chlorophenols can indeed be problematic. Perhaps if your water system uses ground water and thus needs very low levels of chlor*, you can get away with it. Or maybe you don't notice a phenolic touch in the beer. But if your water utility gets high-volume runoff surface water one month, or even fixes a leaking main, they can jack up the sanitizer and definitely cause you some problems. |
