comment Poor efficiency during first all grain brew, need an fail safe for next brew
While this may be true and useful, the question is focused more on how to correct wort from a low efficiency mash, not how to prevent a low efficiency mash.

comment What's the best/safest way to handle likely bottle bombs?
I would be extremely careful here. As you heat the bottles, the pressure inside the bottles will increase and potentially blow them up if they were close already.

Remember the rule of Mythbusters: Everything explodes. It's just a question of what it takes.

Yet you didn't explain why. Remember - multiple (good) answers is a good thing.

comment Can I change the color to my beer to an arbitrary color?
Side note for a failed experiment. I make a potato beer, and tried to make it purple by using purple potatoes. It was purple for a while during the mash, but the color went away during the boil. Moral: If you try to color it from the start, make sure you know how pH and heat will effect the color.

Have you looked through the BJCP style guidelines, or are you asking for something different here? bjcp.org/2008styles/catdex.php

You don't know how happy it made me to see a hydrometer reading in this question.

comment Hydrometer exploded
Wait.. I just caught this after I wrote my answer. The balls themselves are actually a green material? Or is there a green wax on top of them that sealed them into the bottom that may have melted down onto the shot from the hot liquid?

comment Is it normal for WY2112 to stall?
Just to point out, increasing the temperature lowers CO2 solubility in water, so the increased airlock activity might just be CO2 coming out of solution while the yeast continued chugging on at a slow rate.

The syrup has nutrition facts, doesn't it? You should be able to get a reasonable guess using the sugars listed there.

Huh. And I wasn't paying attention. Welcome to Homebrew.SE, CamM!

comment Primary fermentation is still bubbling after 2 weeks. What are the consequences?
"the ongoing bubbling may just be dissolved CO2 coming out of solution" - Key phrase. Since you say it's only bubbling once an hour, I would bet that's just CO2 coming out of solution from temperature swings/sitting around. While you should not rely on bubbles to determine if fermentation is happening, it's probably done. Check the gravity.

comment What factors go into calculating perceived sweetness/bitterness?
You should be able to get a guess. If you know the recipe, you should be able to get the OG from that, then use that in the formulas you got in your question about FG from OG and ABV. If not, you should be able to set up an equation with the attenuation formula, then solve that along with the ABV equation to get an estimate. Not sure, but that sounds about right to me right now. I'll leave setting it up as an exercise for the reader. :P

Some interesting things I came across: thescrewybrewer.com/p/brewing-tools-formulas.html#bbc and an article referenced in that link about balance web.archive.org/web/20100507203942/http://… (retrieved via the wayback machine). I was typing up an answer, but wasn't sure enough I was getting things right to post it. So, figured I'd at least leave the links here for others to review.

Water and safety issues aside, it'd probably look pretty awesome.

comment What will too much Caramunich do to my beer
Agreed; fruit will ferment out pretty well, and considering it's cranberries, the additional sweetness will probably help balance it out.

Yep, I figured it wouldn't actually work. I just noticed that while I was googling and thought "Hey, this could be an interesting question."

Yea. I've not used that strain before, but if a swirl doesn't do anything, I don't think you'll do any harm using a sanitized object to mix it up again.
