Is there anything different I need to do to age a mead for an extreme amount of time? @mdma, ascorbic acid would be Vitamin C. Not sure how well Vitamin A would work for that... |

Vegan option for lactose? @JackSmith, thanks. I haven't done winemaking so I wasn't entirely clear on that approach, but felt it should be suggested. I've edited to show that. |

Mixing Wheat and IPA for WOW I am highly curious about this now, but want to recreate it before going for a batch. Was it basically a 1:1 ratio of wheat to IPA? |

Strange aftertaste in mead? Not sure how well this applies to mead, but what are your fermentation temps/pitch rates looking like? I know my beers all used to get a bit of that solvent-y quality, but once I started getting better temps and making starters, things turned out better. |

When modifying a recipe, should you scale hops based on alpha acids? I have to wonder, is that approach still valid for the aroma hops? Or do alpha acids have some effect on the aroma also? I thought they only really effected bitterness. |

What's wrong with using finings? I would like to note that my roommate, who is majoring in Food Science, says that the FDA doesn't regulate beer, that's the ATF. So, the breweries don't have to label beer ingredients. A lot do just out of pride though. (Saying that they they use certain hops, grain, etc.) |

Yeast on primary fermenting foam Actually, what I'm used to hearing is "krausen" is the foam, and "trub" is all the sediment on the bottom. But really, as long as whoever you're talking to knows what you mean... |

Yeast on primary fermenting foam Yep! It will start to fall near the end of fermentation (still check with a hydrometer though). Sounds like it's going fine. |

Fruit Beer: When to rack to secondary? Fair enough. I saw that question before and followed that for my previous batch of IPA. I was just curious whether it was safe to save the cleanup for the end with the fruit or to just do it all at once, partly because I'm being impatient. +1 for now; going to let it sit for a day-ish before accepting anything in case anyone else has stuff to add. |
